Want to start saving but not sure how?   It’s a brand new month and a great time to take a good look at your finances! ‘America Saves Week’ which ends tomorrow, March 2nd has resulted in some great articles  about saving  all over the net. We have collected a few of the best tips right here in our customer blog, for easy reference:

A savings mantra to live by is to vary your savings places: an emergency fund, an IRA or 401k, and sticking to your long term and short term goals. Having a little money put away into each of these places (whenever possible) allows you to be prepared for unexpected expenses, as well as having the option of living comfortably in the future.

The next tip we selected is having money transferred into a savings account (or multiple accounts) of your choice automatically on a set schedule, either weekly or even monthly. The transfers can come from a checking account, your payroll, or even funds from another financial institution!

Creating and sticking to a budget is another way to see where you can potentially spend less and save more. Here at FNB we have a great online budgeting tool: Online Financial Management (OFM) that will help you keep track of your expenses and set savings goals,  as well as showing you where potential savings were missed  by listing alternative  competitor prices right on your electronic statement.

Savings is important, and it is never too late to start! First Northern is here to help you with all of your financial needs and will be happy to assist you in accomplishing any of your savings goals!  Just remember  1-800-344-CASH, send  your questions by email to this address  [email protected], Find, connect become a fan of First Northern on Facebook via www.facebook.com/1stnorthernbank or  send us a Tweet on our Twitter page  @1stnorthernbank, or come into any one of our 11 branches to speak to a representative  today!
